Our members work at Bridgend County Borough Council, V2C, Bridgend College, Awen, May Gurney and Halo.
Who are we?
We are a UNISON branch based at the Civic Offices, Angel Street, Bridgend and have over 2500 members working in local government, schools, academies, social care and many community, private and voluntary sector employers providing services in the public sector.
Our members’ jobs include professional, managerial, administrative, manual, and engineering roles.
UNISON is one of the UK’s largest trade unions, serving more than 1.3 million members.
Our strength comes from our belief that only by acting together can ordinary working people organise for their mutual benefit. UNISON prides itself on being a member-led organisation that operates not only as a bargaining and negotiating body but also as a campaigning group.
What do we do?
We are here to offer our members help and advice on employment, legal and health and safety matters, education and training opportunities and welfare support. We are also involved in negotiations on a whole range of issues both locally and nationally, including pensions, pay, and terms and conditions of employment individually and collectively.
We represent full-time and part-time staff who provide public services, although they may be employed in both the public and private sectors.
UNISON negotiates with employers at local, regional, and national level about pay, terms and conditions
The branch also provides advice and support to members with grievances, such as bullying and discrimination, and representing members in disciplinary procedures. This can include legal support where appropriate.
